Paying the Cost of Staying in the Past

Today a dear friend was celebrating her birthday. I was looking forward to spending time with her and celebrating her victories. Since it was a special occasion I decided to go all out.  Now in my world, that means eye shadow and lip gloss. Lol! I had laid out my clothes the night before because I am time challenged and I really wanted to be on time for the festivities. Today I took my shower, got my shirt on, did my “make up” and agonized over which flip-flops said “birthday fun”. By this point I knew I was cutting it close with my time. But I breathed a sigh of relief as I looked at the time. Whew! I got the hard stuff over, now just to put on my shorts and I was good to go.

Well dear reader, you may be anticipating this, but this is where the plan fell apart. Read more…

How to Be an Overcomer (Interview)

This is a Repost from http://betterthanwine.net/ 🙂

A few months ago my friend wrote a book called “How To Overcome Heartbreak”. She interviewed several people, including me, to hear how they overcame their individual life challenges.   Check out my interview below!

Interview Questions:

1. What does the word “overcome” mean to you?

To me the word “overcome” means to experience a challenging circumstance and to be a survivor of the challenge. I am a geek so I also like to look at the dictionary definition which says “to get the better of a struggle or conflict; conquer; defeat; to overcome the enemy; to prevail; to overcome one’s weakness”. And my favorite is “to gain the victory”. Read more…

Palm Sunday

The picture above is my church on Palm Sunday.  Every Palm Sunday my church goes outside and blesses the palms we have. Then as a church, we process inside singing Hosanna.   It resonated with me this year, more than in years past how fickle we can be as people. The crowd was praising Jesus one day, calling Him “King” and in the time frame of a week turned on Him. They went from loving and adoring him, to hating him. How often do we say, “Lord you can be ruler of my life. You can be my King.”  Then we turn around and say, “except for my finances, this unhealthy relationship, my job, etc.”?  This year I had a prayer for myself and other believers.  My prayer was that we not be like the crowd and fickle in our faith. A Glimpse of Heaven

A glimpse of heaven. So today as I write my first blog post there is snow on the ground and the sky is dreary.  I’m in need of some warmth!  I’m thinking back to a Sunday a few weeks back. My pastor was preaching (I really love my two pastors).  I was at church sitting by myself and saw one of my friends during the service and smiled and waved.  A warmness filled my heart with thoughts of my pastor and my friend.  When I went up to communion I saw a few more of my friends and made eye contact and we shared a smile.  I thought, this must be what heaven is like…all my favorite people.   Read more…
